It began with a mother’s lesson.
And a grandmother’s love.

My mother taught me to sew when I was twelve. Years later, when I began raising my granddaughter Nala, I made her pretty, frilly dresses for Sunday church.

Other mothers noticed and began asking for dresses for their daughters. In 2004, that love of sewing became Nala Pooh Originals—the beginning of what is now R.E. Hughes Originals.

Today, that same care lives in my bags, accessories, journals, and special pieces. I love creating something beautiful that feels personal to the woman carrying it.
